Experts tell us and research shows that in the future, a lot of jobs will be lost through advances in technology and automation. However, human behavioural understanding cannot be lost because technology cannot replicate it. These will be needed more than ever in the future which is why we call them ‘Future Skills.’

They can include:

  • Caring for others
  • Communication

  • Cultural understanding
  • Leadership
  • Problem-solving
  • Resilience
  • Social responsibility
  • Teamwork
How to build your Future Skills:
  • Get involved in regular volunteer work that will give you Future Skills
  • Get involved with a community project
  • Spend time getting to know people from different cultural and social backgrounds
  • Secure an internship at a business or organisation that is innovative and cutting edge

Food for thought: In 2019, the New Zealand Government committed to making New Zealand a clean, green and carbon-neutral economy. Getting hands-on volunteering experience with local conservationists is a great addition to your CV as it shows employers you are contributing to an important national goal.
