Creativity

Performance in New Zealand

What is creativity?

To be creative is to approach a task or problem in a different way by using your imagination to generate new and interesting ideas. Often confused with imagination, which is simply thinking of an idea, creativity also requires acting on it and turning it into a reality.

People who are creative can identify hidden patterns, connections and opportunities, ultimately producing unique solutions to problems.

While some people believe that you’re either born creative or you’re not, it’s an important soft skill that can be developed and honed through experiential learning. Engaging in experiences that are new and challenging or spending time with people who have different perspectives to your own are great ways to challenge your thinking.

These experiences provide opportunities to observe, question and experiment, which are essential for developing a creative mindset.

These are highly desirable attributes to employers, who are always looking for new ways to innovate and improve their businesses.

Creativity is quickly becoming one of the most sought after soft skills by employers, as the modern workforce is all about innovation and flexibility.

Showing that you’re a creative thinker who is open to new ideas and not afraid to challenge the status quo will make you stand out in a pool of applicants.
